We all know now that social media, and what if anything connected, have the wind in its sails. So much so that even companies are getting into, no matter how often elsewhere.

Many predict that they will replace traditional media (TV, Radio, …) to run, but also state that in the meantime, they remain the preserve of geeks and other young people, with rare exceptions.

But one thing more amazing about social networks. According to a study by Pingdom, the female population there is a majority.

• 84% of social sites have more female users than male. This figure is huge.
• Only very few specialized sites (if not connoted) really have much of registered male and female: Slashdot, Reddit and Digg.
• Twitter and Facebook, both current social networks are very balanced (resp. 59% and 57% women)

For my part I never thought of such figures. With 53% of women on all networks audited, these figures probably reflect the communication skills developed over women.
